Modern coinage by Eliezer Ben-Yehuda based on Ancient Greek τάξις (táxis) and Arabic طَقْس‎ (ṭaqs) published in his daily newspaper, HaTzvi.

טֶקֶס • (tekes) m (plural indefinite טְקָסִים‎, plural construct טִקְסֵי־‎)

Some use/prefer the spelling טֵכֶס‎ (tekhes), which was common in Mishnaic Hebrew, but nowadays the Academy of the Hebrew Language recommends טֶקֶס (tekes),[1] and it is far more common.[2]
