הִפְסִיק • (hifsík) (hif'il construction)

1. (transitive or intransitive) To stop, to cease, to desist, to terminate. (See usage note below.)

• Hebrew has two words corresponding to English stop: הפסיק and עָצַר‎ (atsár). The latter pertains to motion; more explicitly, it means “(intransitive) To stop moving” or “(transitive) To stop the motion of”. The former pertains to other actions or events; more explicitly, it means “(transitive) To cease, desist, terminate.”
