Probably of onomatopoeic origin, imitating gurgling of water when it is poured out of a bottle. Compare Arabic بَقْبَقَة (baqbaqa, “gurgling sound”), Classical Syriac ܒܿܲܓܼܒܿܘܼܓܼܵܐ (baḡbūḡā, “pitcher”).
