From Middle Iranian *čāš. Compare Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (cʾšt' /čāšt/, “lunch, meal”), Persian چاشت (čāšt, “breakfast, early dinner”), چاش (čāš, “lunch”). See also ճաշակ (čašak).
