Etymology
The origin in uncertain.[1][2] Has been compared to Avestan 𐬞𐬆𐬭𐬆𐬚𐬎 (pərəθu), Sanskrit पृथु (pṛthu, “broad”)[3][4][5][6] and also to Georgian ფართო (parto), Mingrelian ფართე (parte), Laz ფართო (parto, “wide”)[7][8], which may be Iranian borrowings[1]. Perhaps borrowed from an unidentified Iranian cognate of these words.[9]
