Declension

Old Armenian

Etymology

From *կնգում (*kngum, ermine) + -ենի (-eni, fur-suffix). The animal name *կնգում (*kngum), which is not attested in Old Armenian, is a borrowing of unknown origin, related to Middle Persian kʾkwm (/kākom/, stoat).[1] Perhaps borrowed from the Middle Persian, if the -ն- (-n-) can be explained as a nasal epenthesis or a misspelling of -ա- (-a-).
