Etymology

A Hurro-Urartian borrowing:[1][2][3] compare Urartian [script needed] (ḫaluli, grape (?), banquet (?)),[4][5][6] Hurrian [script needed] ((GIŠ)ḫaluli, a certain fruit)[7]. In their turn, these may be borrowed from Semitic.[8] Coptic ⲁⲗⲟⲗⲓ (aloli, grape) (from Egyptian jꜣrrt) and Ancient Greek χάλις (khális, unmixed wine) have also been compared.[9][10]
