Old Armenian

Etymology

The origin is uncertain. Ačaṙyan leaves the origin of the word open. J̌ahukyan derives from Proto-Indo-European *wol-d-ur-, from *wel- (to turn, to wind), with a semantic shift “flexible, supple” → “tender”; contamination with քաղցր (kʿałcʿr) is possible.

Adjective

գողտր (gołtr) indeclinable

  1. mild, delicate, tender
  2. loose, lax
