Etymology
The origin is uncertain. Martirosyan tentatively suggests derivation from Proto-Armenian *god-i- (“worship, pagan cult”), from Proto-Indo-European *gʷʰedʰ-, *gʷʰodʰ-. See also գոդի (godi) and գոդի (godi).
