բուզաղթն
Old Armenian
Alternative forms
- բազոխտ (bazoxt)
- բազուխթ (bazuxtʿ)
- բազուիթ (bazuitʿ) (misspelling)
Etymology
The origin is uncertain. Martirosyan proposes to interpret this as a compound of *բուզ- (*buz-), *բոզ- (*boz-, “sun, light”) and *աղթ- (*ałtʿ-, “darkness”). For the first compare բուզի (buzi, “sun”), for the second աղտամուղտ (ałtamułt, “darkness”). Typologically compare dialectal մութ-ու-լուս (mutʿ-u-lus, “twilight”, literally “dark-and-light”).
