Etymology

From Middle Median *arasan, from Proto-Iranian *rašanaH (rope). Compare Parthian 𐫡𐫘𐫗 (rsn /rasan/, rope), Middle Persian [script needed] (lsn' /rasan/, rope), Persian رسن (rasan), Sanskrit रशना (raśanā, rope, cord). The Parthian cognate was borrowed again as երասան (erasan). See also ապարասան (aparasan).
