Etymology

The earlier form was *արհ (*arh), as confirmed by one of its combining forms and the Georgian borrowing ზარი (zari, terror, fear), from *զարհ (*zarh), where զ- (z-) is an intensifying suffix. The origin of *արհ (*arh) is unknown.
