өйрәкморон

Bashkir

Өйрәкморондар.

Etymology

Composed of өйрәк (öyräk, duck) + морон (moron, nose). Calque of Russian утконо́с (utkonós).

Compare with Tatar үрдәкборын (ürdäqborın, platipus), Uzbek oʻrdakburun (platipus), Azerbaijani ördəkburun (platipus) - these cognates are made up of components that are etymologically equivalent to those in the Bashkir term.

Also compare Kazakh үйректұмсық (üyrektumsıq, platipus), Uyghur ئۆردەكتۇمشۇق‎ (ördektumshuq‎, platipus) - these two have a different second component, which is equivalent to Bashkie томшоҡ (tomšoq).
