Etymology

Via an intermediary (probably Mongolic) source, from Turkic *quduğ "well" (compare Old Turkic quduğ (quduğ), quδuğ (quδuğ, well)), from Proto-Turkic *Kud- (to pour).

Compare ҡойо (qoyo), the native Kypchak development from the same archetype, and ҡоҙоҡ (qoðoq).

Compare with Southern Altai кутук (kutuk), Khakas хутух (xutux, well).
