Etymology

From *qaysï "which", which is a possessive form of *qay "which", from Proto-Turkic *ka- (interrogative particle).

Cognate with Tatar кайсы (qaysı), Kazakh қайсы (qaysı), Kyrgyz кайсы (kaysı), Uzbek qaysi, Uyghur قايسى (qaysi), Khakas хайзы (xayzı), etc.
