From Proto-Turkic *yasɨ-muk (“lentil”), perhaps from *yassɨ (“flat”).
Cognate with Old Uyghur [script needed] (jasïmuq, “millet?”)[1]; Turkish yasmık (“lentil”), Uzbek yasmiq (“lentil”), Uyghur يېسمۇق (yësmuq, “lentil”).
