Etymology

From *yalqïn (flame), from Proto-Turkic *yal- (to catch fire; burn).

Cognate with Tatar ялкын (yalkın, flame), Kazakh жалқын (jalqın, flame), Southern Altai јалкын (ǰalkïn, lightning), Uzbek yolqin (flame), Uyghur يالقۇن (yalqun, flame).

Note that there is a parallel form *yalïn (flame), attested in many Turkic languages - it should be kept separate.
