From *yalañač (“nude, naked”), from Proto-Turkic *jạlɨŋ (“naked; lone, solitary”), whence also яңғыҙ (yañğïð).
Cognate with Kazakh жалаңаш (jalañaş), Kyrgyz жылаңач (cılañaç), Southern Altai јалаҥаш (ǰalaŋaš, “naked, nude”), Crimean Tatar calanğaş (“naked, barefoot”), Uyghur يالاڭاچ (yalangach) / يالاڭغاچ (yalangghach, “bare, naked”), etc.
