Etymology
From Volga Turki طرفندن (tarafïndan, “by, through the action of”), from Chagatai.
Synchronously, an inflected (possessive 3sg ablative) form of the noun тараф (taraf, “side, party, participant”).
Exactly analogous to Turkish tarafından (“by, through the action of”), Uyghur тәрипидин (teripidin, “by, through the action of”).
Also compare Uzbek tomonidan (“by, through the action of”), in which tomon (“side, direction”), in the same (possessive 3sg ablative) inflected form.
