From Volga Turki تموخ (tamuğ, “hell”), via Chagatai [Term?], from Old Uyghur [script needed] (tamuğ, “hell”)[1], from an Iranian language, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *temH- (“dark”).
Cognate with Tatar тәмуг (tämuğ, “hell”), Uzbek tamugʻ (“hell”), Uyghur تامۇق (tamuq, “hell”), Turkish tamu (“hell”).
