Borrowed from Mongolic otherwise it is hard to explain word initial /s/, compare Mongolian санаа (sanaa, “thought”). Ultimately from Proto-Turkic *sāna- (“to think”), from *sān (“number, counting”), from *sā- (“to think, count”). Cognate with Turkish say- (“to count, regard”).
