Etymology

A regional, West Kypchak term. No cognates found elsewhere. Relation to Proto-Turkic *sakɨŕ (gum, resin) is unclear.

Cognate with Tatar чәер (çäyer, pitch, resin), Kazakh шайыр (şayır, pitch, resin), Nogai шайыр (şayır, pitch, resin), Kyrgyz чайыр (çayır, pitch, resin), Karachay-Balkar чайыр (čayïr, pitch, resin, gum).
