From Persian رحمت (rahmat, “mercy”), from Arabic رَحْمَة (raḥma, “compassion, mercy”).
Cognate with Tatar рәхмәт (räxmät), Kazakh рахмет (raxmet), рақмет (raqmet), Kyrgyz ыракмат (ırakmat), Uzbek rahmat, Uyghur رەھمەت (rehmet, “thank you”).
