параша

Russian

Pronunciation

  • IPA(key): [pɐˈraʂə]

Noun

пара́ша (paráša) f inan (genitive пара́ши, nominative plural пара́ши, genitive plural пара́ш)

  1. close-stool in a prison
  2. bullshit, nonsense, untrue rumors

Usage notes

The place near пара́ша (paráša) is considered the least prestigious in Russian prison cells, which are often shared by many inmates. It is often reserved to the so called петухи, passive homosexuals, the lowest standing caste in the Russian prison caste system. The word is therefore associated with something having very low quality. It can also be used in expressions such as Твоё место у параши, 'Your place is at the close-stool', which is considered utterly insulting.
