Etymology
From Proto-Turkic *kömbe, *kömbelek. Cognate with Tatar гөмбә (gömbä), Azerbaijani göbələk and Turkmen kömelek. Etymologically unrelated to Proto-Slavic *gǫba (“mushroom”).[1]
