From Common Kypchak *egin "grain crop", from *ekin "cultivated land; crops grown on such land"; from Proto-Turkic *ek- (“to sow”).
Cognate with Old Uyghur [script needed] (ekin, “arable land, tilled land”); Kazakh егін (egin, “grain crops”), Kyrgyz эгин (egin, “grain crops”), Uzbek ekin (“farm crop”), Uyghur ئېكىن (ëkin, “arable land; farm crop”), Turkish ekin (“farm crop”).
