Etymology

Equivalent to бӕгънӕ́г (bæǧnǽg, naked) + сӕр (sær, head). According to Abaev, the compound is already of Old Iranian period: *magna-sara- or *magna-sāra-. For the constituents see *negʷ- and *ḱerh₂-. Middle Armenian Մանկասար (Mankasar) may be related.
