Apparently, a Central Asian innovation.

Cognate with Kazakh ақсақал (aqsaqal), Tatar аксакал (aqsaqal), Kyrgyz аксакал (aksakal), Uzbek oqsoqol, Uyghur ئاقساقال (aqsaqal), Turkmen aksakgal, Turkish aksakallı (village elder; elderly respected man).

Equivalent to аҡ (aq, white) + һаҡал (haqal, beard).
