Etymology

A technical word without convincing etymology; a connection with ψάλλω (psállō, to pluck) remains hypothetical. Maybe from Pre-Greek and related to ψέλιον (psélion, ring worn by the Persians) and ψαλόν (psalón, kind of bridle).
