μύρτος

Ancient Greek

Etymology

Because of the phonetic similarity and their semantic proximity, this word, μύρρα (múrrha) and μυρίκη (muríkē) are usually considered to be mutually cognate Semitic loans without further argumentation. However, the variation μυρτ-/μυρσ- points to a Pre-Greek origin.
