From Proto-Indo-European *leyp- (fat substance). Stem λῐπ-, λῐπο-, λῐπᾰρ- (sense: “fat”). Different from λῐπ- (sense: “wanting”) of aorist ἔλῐπον (élipon) of verb λείπω (leípō, leave; lack). Different from λπᾰρ- from λίπτω (líptō, desire).
