From Koine Greek εἰσιτήριον (eisitḗrion, entrance-deposit), nominalised neuter of adjective εἰσιτήριος (eisitḗrios, belonging to entrance). From εἰσ- (eis-, in) + ἰ- (i-) (from ἰτός (itós, passable) with iota < ι > from < ει > of the verb εἶμι (eîmi, come, go)) + -τήριον (-tḗrion).
