αἰγίλωψ

Ancient Greek

Etymology

Unclear. The oak sense has been argued from Proto-Indo-European *h₂eyǵ- (oak)

However, the haver-grass sense has been argued to derive from αἴγιλος (aígilos), from Proto-Indo-European *h₂eyǵ- (goat).

For the lachrymal fistula sense, see also ἀγχίλωψ (ankhílōps).
