Etymology

From Ottoman Turkish اسنمق (ısınmak), reflexive of Proto-Turkic *ɨsɨ-, *isi- (to be hot). The reflexive form replaced the original verb.

Cognate with Karakhanid [script needed] (isin-, to warm self), Azerbaijani isinmək (to warm up), Crimean Tatar isinmek (to get warm), Uzbek isinmoq (to warm).
