ħafna
Maltese
Etymology
Probably from Arabic حَفْنة (ḥafna, “a handful”). The word refers to a small amount in Arabic but could easily have developed the sense “much, many” over time; compare English pretty, rather (both “somewhat”, but also “very”), or quite a few.
