öyle

Turkish

Etymology

From earlier ayla, from Old Turkic [script needed] (anlayu), from Old Turkic 𐰉𐰆 (an, she, he, it, that) + 𐰞𐰖𐰆 (-lAyU) (similative suffix). Compare Turkish o (she, he, it, that), from a merger of earlier an and ol. Compare böyle (like this), şöyle (like that).
