Calque of German Elchtest, coined in 1997 (after a Mercedes-Benz overturned during the test at 60 km/h, less than 40 mph), pejoratively implying one rarely or never needs to perform such maneuvers at the speeds used in the test, except in "exotic" countries such as Sweden, where elk sometimes do get onto the roads. The original name, used for decades but now all but displaced, was undanmanöverprov.
