Readings of this term vary. Edel gives it as zpwj snwj, with the constituents agreeing in dual number, and Loprieno apparently concurs (“It is clear, however, that ‘1’ and ‘2’ were adjectives following the noun they modify (in the singular or the dual)”). Some other authors read zp snwj, with zp in the singular. Rarely both parts are given without dual endings, as in Hoch’s rendition sp sn. Perhaps the most common practice is to simply render it zp 2, directly following the glyphs, and so remaining agnostic on how it is to be read; this is done, for example, by Allen and the Thesaurus Linguae Aegyptiae.
