zodra

Dutch

Etymology

See zo (so) + dra (soon), the latter from Middle Dutch drâde, compare weldra (soon). Likely related to Dutch draaien (to turn), with an unclear development of sense, in which case from Proto-Germanic *þrēaną. In this case cognate with German drehen (to throw) and English throw. Also compare Middle High German drâte (fast) from Old High German dratō (swift, violent).
