Etymology
A prefixed formation based on Proto-Albanian *gripa, cognate to Old High German krapfo (“hook”) and Old Norse krappr (“narrow”)[1]. Alternatively from Proto-Indo-European *grep- (“hook”), from *gremb- (“crooked, uneven”), from *ger- (“to turn, bend, twist”), same root as grep (“hook”).
