From yōliliztli (life) + ātl (water), a calque of Spanish agua viva (living water) or agua de vida (water of life), ultimately from Ancient Greek ὕδωρ ζωῆς (húdōr zōês, “water of life”), an expression found in the Water of Life discourse in John 4:10–26.
