ylämummo
Finnish
Etymology
Coined in 2000 by the former captain of Finland's national ice hockey team, Timo "Juti" Jutila, who is known for his colourful language. Since then, the term has been widely used by sports commentators and ice hockey enthusiasts. Literally the term translates as ylä- (“upper”) + mummo (“grandma”), which of course makes no sense. Why exactly Juti chose to use this term, is not known.
Noun
ylämummo
- (ice hockey, slang) the uppermost part of the inside of an ice hockey goal
- Kiekko upposi ylämummoon.
