Originally ‘wind, twist’, from Proto-Albanian *welwa, from Proto-Indo-European *wel-u- 'to turn, roll' (compare Latin volvere, Old English wealwian, Ancient Greek εἰλύω (eilúō) ‘to roll up, wrap’).
