támad

  1. (intransitive) to arise, originate

Conjugation

Between the alternative forms támadt and támadott, only the short form can be used in the sense "to occur" or "to arise". In the sense "to attack", the long form is more correct[2], but both are used. Examples:

Támadt egy nagyszerű ötletem.I've got a great idea. (literally: A great idea occured to me.)
Hirtelen erős szél támadt.All of a sudden, a strong wind arose.
Újból támadott az álarcos rém.The masked phantom has struck again.
