From Old Galician and Old Portuguese toutiço (back of the head) (13th century, Cantigas de Santa Maria), from a pre-Roman substrate of Iberia, from Proto-Indo-European *tewtéh₂ (people, nation; heap?), from Proto-Indo-European *tewh₂- (to swell).[1]
