    • 1931 May, EA Doisy, “The preparation of theelol”, in Journal of Biological Chemistry, page 641:
At the suggestions of Dr. Paul N. Leech and Dr. A. M. Schwitalla we called the compound first isolated theelin from the Greek, Theelus, meaning woman or female. We propose now, in view of the facts that the new substance is a trihydroxy compound and that it shows physiological and possibly chemical similarities to theelin, to name it theelol.
