Borrowed from French templet (a stretcher), from Latin templum (a small timber, a purlin)

templet (plural templets)

  1. A pattern, guide, or model used to indicate the shape any piece of work is to assume when finished.
  2. A strip of metal used in boiler-making, pierced with a series of holes, and serving as a guide in marking out a line of rivet-holes.
