Etymology

From Ottoman Turkish سورومك (sürümek, to drag), from Proto-Turkic *südre- (to pull, tug).[1] Akin to Proto-Mongolic *sidur-, compare Mongolian шудрах (šudrah, to pull forward). Medial /d/ was lost instead of yielding /y/, compare a similar case at üremek.
