Etymology

From Old Portuguese sobrencella, from Latin supercilia, plural of supercilium (eyebrow), from super (above) + cilium (eyelid). Doublet of the borrowed supercílio. A nasal infix developed in Portuguese, as with Romansh survantscheglia; cf. also Romanian sprânceană.
