From Proto-Albanian *stūlā-, from Proto-Indo-European *stuh₂-leh₂- < *steh₂- (“to stand up”). Compare Ancient Greek στῦλος (stûlos).[1] Alternatively from Byzantine Greek στῦλος (stûlos).[2]
